Oklahoma Balance Billing Laws & Federal No Surprises Act


Oklahoma does not have a comprehensive state balance billing statute. Oklahoma patients are protected from balance billing under the federal No Surprises Act (effective January 1, 2022), which covers emergency services at any facility and scheduled non-emergency services at in-network facilities.

Overview

A balance bill occurs when an out-of-network (OON) provider bills a patient for the difference between the OON charge and what the insurer pays.
